For old time's sake, my first 8-bit cover of 2021 was a Homestuck cover, except with my current level of production quality, which means replicating the sounds of the original instruments and fitting as much of the song into the VRC6 soundchip as I can with zero to minimal arpeggio usage. I think this cover turned out pretty good! Some of my favorite parts of it are:
- the trippy rubber band sounding percussion at 0:12
- the lead at 0:45, which sounds pretty much exactly like the original Carne Vale
- the entire section 1:33 to 1:57
- the calm interlude section after that
- the percussion from 3:26 to 3:50
All in all, I'd say Carne Vale suits itself very well to an 8-bit cover.
